With my role on the Young people’s sport panel, I coordinated a Youth Sport Strategy at Heriot-Watt University on 14 February for local young people within the South-West of Edinburgh.

Twelve young people were in attendance with a good mix of pupils from Currie, Balerno and Wester Hailes High Schools and students from Edinburgh College and Heriot-Watt University.

My time on the Young people’s sport panel has been invaluable to my personal development. I have been able to develop a number of skills including communication, facilitation and leadership skills, among many more.

Many of these young people are heavily involved in sport and it was a fantastic opportunity for them to contribute to the strategy and reflect on their own sporting experiences and involvement.

I have been heavily involved in the consultation of the Youth Sport Strategy in a few different guises. I attended two consultation sessions with sportscotland and the Young people's sport panel, facilitated the session for other young people in South-West Edinburgh and helped with the formation of a response from Scottish Student Sport.

My time on the Young people’s sport panel has been invaluable to my personal development. I have been able to develop a number of skills including communication, facilitation and leadership skills, among many more.

The development and networking opportunities are second to none and I struggle to think of a better volunteer opportunity in Scottish sport for an aspiring sport professional.

What is the Young people's sport panel?

The Young people's sport panel is a group of young Scots that have been selected to give a voice of young people across Scotland, formed through a partnership between sportscotland and Young Scot. They are working together and on their own to achieve two objectives: to influence and shape the future of sport in Scotland and raise the profile of sport in Scotland.
